Lil Nas X’s “Satan Shoes” Have Drops of Human Blood In Sole
Rapper Lil Nas X and a Brooklyn streetwear company MSCHF released highly controversial Satan Shoes collaboration. The devilish pair is made on the basis of a classic Nike air max 97 silhouette, decorated with a pentagram pendant and a reference to Luke 10:18, a Bible verse about Satan's fall from heaven. The most provocative and startling move, however, was to put drops of real human blood in the sole of the shoe, mixed with red ink. This decision along with the name and pentagram gained the release extraordinary traction in the media (aka free promotion), even eliciting response from some of the politicians, such as South Dakota governor Kristi Noem, who reacted to release with a call to “fight for the soul of our nation”. Nike immediately distanced themselves from the release. Company put out an official statement saying that they "did not design or release these shoes" and "do not endorse them". The blood used in the shoes was drawn from members of the MSCHF team. “Uhhhhhh yeah hahah not medical professionals we did it ourselves lol,” one of MSCHF’s founders, Daniel Greenberg told press. “Satan shoes” released in a quantity of 666 pairs, which are individually numbered and have Luke 10:18 on the sides. Sneakers are currently available for $1,018 via Lil Nas X's website
