Sportswear brand Nike has officially launched legal action against streetwear company MSCHF for trademark infringement over the "Satan Shoes" – a MSCHF x Lil Nas X’s collaboration. The collab authors took some daring design ideas, including putting real human blood in the sole of the sneaker. The base MSCHF and Nike picked up for the customization was Nike Air Max 97. "Satan Shoes" immediately and expectedly flooded the news – sneakers, put out by an openly gay artist, decorated with a pentagram pendant, reference to Luke 10:18 (a Bible verse about Satan's fall from heaven) and the real human blood in the sole were too juicy of a story to pass on. Right after the release Nike made it clear that they have nothing to do with the devilish kicks, but the press eventually got to them and they unleashed their legal team on"Satan Shoes" producer - MSCHF. In a lawsuit filed at a district court in New York, Nike said the altered shoes, which still display its signature swoosh logo, causes confusion and makes it look like "Nike is endorsing Satanism" which in turn leads to "calls to boycott" their brand and damages its reputation. Nike has asked for MSCHF to pay damages and legal fees and is seeking an intervention to stop the orders of Satan Shoes from being fulfilled. Lil Nas X himself is not mentioned in the lawsuit. The rapper reacted to the news by posting a meme: two men strutting in thigh-high boots with a caption "me and satan on the way to nike headquarters".
